Typically, companies offer a fixed share to developers and sometimes don’t pay them royalties until they recoup the investment. After Twitch stars such as xQc and Sodapoppin were subjected to DDoS attacks while playing ‘Crab Game,’ the game’s developer released a major update that hides players’ IP addresses. Nobody wants their IP address to be exposed to the wrong person, especially a streamer. A DDoS attack on the creator, if done successfully, will cease all attempts to stream since the attack fills your internet router with traffic, effectively shutting it down. The developer apologized on Twitter just hours after xQc and Sodapoppin were subjected to DDoS attacks while playing Crab Game. They also took the time to clarify what went wrong during development that resulted in the IP addresses being disclosed. (2/3) The game is built on Facepunch Steam P2P networking, which seemed like a fast and good solution. The developer reported that the game has been solved just two days after announcing the update, however there are still a few issues to address. But it is apparently very unsecure, and you can sometimes leak your IP. You can play/host public lobbies, and your IP will not be shared.” Im changing it to the new and more secure Steam Networking now, but it might take a few days, as I have. Crab Game has been streamed by multiple popular creators, including xQc, Pokimane, and Sodapoppin (Image via Sportskeeda) A free-to-play video game created by Daniel Sooman, Crab Game is based on. He went on to say that the game’s networking code had been completely replaced with Steam’s more secure version, but that this had come at the cost of a few problems in the game. Fortunately, he plans to address these issues shortly, and he simply wants to highlight the issue that is causing the IP address leak. In a final tweet, the developer specifically apologized to the affected creators, naming xQc, Sodapoppin, and nmpLol. Since the first announcement, the community has been supportive, praising the developer for staying on top of the problem. Hopefully, no one else will be hit by a DDoS attack now that this new patch is in place.
